The Return of the Spirit

Short film depicting the return of three ancient Egyptian gods vis à vis their vessels –– the statues of the three gods in the MET museum in New York City –– and a metaphor imbued by way of glass blowing for breathing life into these vessels so that the gods may be resurrected. Accompanied by a score of breath & glass developed throughout the short film.

Archival film interweaving an unstructured interview with a grandmother who has ascended to heaven survived by her daughter, intertwining both her daughter’s and her daughter’s husband’s interviews into a pastiche of what it means to be Coptic offering an intimate living archive of Coptic history and traditions that are both personal and political.
